49ers Rush Podcast with John Chapman
49ers Special Season Continues and Football IQ Rant
This transcript does not include audio timing.
Time for the 49ers Rush Podcast. And here's your host, John Chapman. What is going on, Faithful? It is absolutely incredible to be with everybody. A little bit of a different time, Friday afternoon show, why not? Usually, this is where we're getting in our preview, predictions, scouting report, all that stuff. But man, with it being a Monday night football game and so many players kind of up for both the commanders and the 49ers, which we're going to go over both practice reports today, both just came out, that's what I've been waiting on. Yeah, just a little too much uncertainty when you get to week six of the NFL season two. Man, it's hard to place those bets, it's hard to put those predictions and like game plans in when it's like, man, there's like 15 questionable players for the 49ers and probably about eight questionable players for the commander, starters on both sides, offense, defense, you name it. So I thought I would do just a little bit extra bonus show since we got a bonus day. Jump on and do a little bit of a Q&A. So if you got a question, throw that in the chat. I've got a handful of stuff that I kind of want to address as well. This is episode 1747 of the 49ers Rush Podcast. Have to say thank you to our executive producers, Corey Robbins, 49ers George 365, William Sinclair and David Gill. Appreciate the hashtag CCs, the countdown crew coming in strong and notorious showing up quick. Love it, man. Thank you for the super chat. It says, everyone needs to watch Grayson Halton on the Boombox walkout. He's been front and center of it for the past two weeks. Boombox is safe, is in safe hands for the future. You love it. I mean, it's been Debo. It's been Trent Williams. You know, like, there's a couple guys that kind of threw themselves in there. They probably didn't belong in there. If Grayson wants it, it's his. If Grayson wants it, it is his. I don't mind Debo be in there. And I know it's like not the biggest deal in the world. But man, if you're at the game, especially the home game, whenever they put that up on the screen, that crowd goes freaking awesome, man. I love it. And it's like the little things like as fans. What is it that increases your enjoyment level? Is it about getting all hyped and whatever else? Because I love that stuff, man. I really, really do. And so whatever works for the players to get amped up, and I used to say this whenever I coach, what do you need to do? Are you a quiet, mental focus, vision? You need to see mentally and go through those reps in your head, then you do that. You need to crank up some music and dance and whatever, then you do that. You don't get in the way of your teammates, but what you got to do, because what we would do is we send our kids home a lot of times if it was a super late game, because you had the period, Texas football a little bit different, but you do what you got to do, and every player is different, people get motivated in different ways. You got to do all kinds of different stuff. I put that on there. What's up, man? Joel, he says, live show, I'm at the gym. That's right, Philippines time, a little bit different. Glad to see you in here. See, it's a fun names that I don't get to see all the time. And that's part of, like, I like doing these later shows sometimes because, yeah, you get to see some names perhaps in the live chat that you don't always get to see. What's up, Alex? John's personal chauffeur checking in for his duty. We had Alex pick me up in Seattle. He took care of me, dude. Freaking class act. You stud. We even had a couple of beverages together. We had a good time. Appreciate you, Alex. And if you're anywhere close to Seattle, and you need to be a part of a community, Seattle faithful, man, go check them out on Facebook. I think that's where they're probably most active. That chapter is top notch, man. They are the best of the best. So check that out. Right here, Rick Torres getting nervous with Evans Achilles soreness. Man, we just old. That's all that is. Mike Evans was on a side field today. That's good news. That means he can run, he can jog. You've got to rest and just get this dude ready to perform. At this stage in his career, you're just modifying throughout the week to get him ready for Sunday or Monday night in this case. That's all you're doing. That dude was the baddest man on the field last week with two good teams. You want to debate if Seattle is a good team. I understand that. They're three and three. But, man, I loved it. That was fun. But like, dude, he's just big boying grown men out there. And so my level of concern for Mike Evans at this point is not very much. I think they're just being smart. I think they're just being smart there. Right here, Steven, what's up, man? JC., if you had one move to do, would you do Buckner or Mack? Oh, I think I'm going Buckner, to be honest with you. You get Buckner you could have for a couple of years. Mack, I think it's one and done. And I think that the defensive in room, when it's all said and done and players do return, will be at a better situation than I think the defensive tackle room. But I take either one of them. I would take either one of them. I do bring back Buck, dude. I love to force Buckner. I love to force Buckner. Obviously, that trade didn't work out. Ah, man. Yeah, it would be awesome. Right here, Mack, I want to sit Evans to make sure he heals up. But man, who else we got? You can't. You can't. You got to win these games. What's up, Josh? Appreciate you, man. We will have our preview prediction episode. Man, my plan was, I was talking with the wife, like trying to get my schedule together. I was like, oh, I'll just do a Sunday morning show before kickoff, but there's a freaking overseas game. So kickoffs at 6.30. So I don't like competing with the NFL. I don't know when we're going to do that show. Maybe tomorrow morning early if I wake up or maybe just Monday morning, day of the game. Get up here, record our preview episode and then go down. I'll be at the game with the wife and party there. So there we go. Captain added 49ers Rush crew member to my resume. That's right, dude. You're the president. No, no, no, not crew member. 49ers Rush crew president, dude. Are you kidding me? CEO. Yeah, Mac Jones at the front was cool. He belongs there. Man, thank you, Eric. Miss you, brother. Miss you, brother. Notorious, do I think Jews plays Monday? I would not. You see like the clips of him running in a straight line and practicing on the side field. That's great. This is a knee sprain. Knee sprains is back and forth. You could do sprints all day. It's that plant juke and all that leverage on the inside, outside of the knee that's always a concern. So like, yeah, you can look great in the high knees and all that. That's great. It's the side to side stuff. I, with these older players and knees, I go on the side of caution. You need, you need him long term. Knees are nothing to play with. Long, you know, bruised ribs, all right. But no one there. Right here, Joel. What are the odds Kirk gets activated this week or next? I think strong. I didn't think he would be ready this week, but man, he's been out there in back to back practices, looking decent. If you were healthy at wide receiver, I'd say no, but you are not. You look at that wide receiver depth chart, and he's gotten all the snaps that you want him to get. Mike Evans, Jordan Watkins is starting, if you want to know how bad it is. You got Brandon Cooks, you got Jacob Cowling, that's it. That's four. Yeah, I'm activating Christian Kirk, and I'm just putting him in the F-roll. And I'm saying, look, dude, we're going to be in 11 personnel, maybe 25 snaps this game. Let's try to learn the 11 personnel, just learn the F. We'll put you out there, but you got to have five. Do you call up Malik Turner? Do you give somebody else a shot? Will Paul Lainer Wesley Grimes or do you put him on there? If he can go and if he can run 15 plays, then you put them out there. You put them out there. So I'm going to say, gosh, 70 percent Ron Burgundy, that Christian Kirk is activated this week. I think so. Stovey. What are we doing at the trade deadline? Big splash or nothing, burger, big splash, baby. Big splash like John Chapman in middle school, doing the cannonball contest. Big splash, baby. You are five and oh, both the Rams and Seahawks have three losses. You've got the lead, you've got the roster, you have players returning. It is time. And I am the resident. Don't do too much to shake the boat. That's who I am, right? I'm a wet blanket whenever it comes to trades and rumors and what? Like, I understand that's just my nature. Not right now it ain't. Not right now it ain't. So that November 10th deadline, oh, I want it. But you got to wait and it takes three to tango. You've got to have a team willing to sell. You've got to have a team willing to buy. And you've got to have a contract that works with the numbers. You get those three things. Those teams, so one giant part of that equation is teams ready to sell. They don't exist yet. They don't exist. We literally saw an 0 and 14 trade a second round pick and buy last week. Teams ain't ready yet. Teams ain't ready yet. So once a team, and it's going to start happening week by week, and again, like I'm going to keep saying this, I hate it. I am not a people lose their job type of guy, but once the firings commence, that tells you which teams are fire selling. So pay attention to that. Now you've got to add, I hate the context of the situation, but man, you're watching the Eagles and it's like, dude, the Eagles might be in sell mode very, very soon. Very, very soon. So we'll see with that. Good job, Cam's dad, Josh the man. Remember when you were younger and you could play sports, lift weights, go out drinking, hang out with friends, get a couple hours of sleep, wake up and feel like great the next day? Then I hit my 30s and now I'm in my 40s and it's just different. You get back to back, bad night's sleep. You feel horrible. Well, here's what I've learned. As you get older, your body is still producing the testosterone it needs, but you're not able to use much of it. Mike and Trent are guys you don't have to worry about being available. Bosa, on the other hand, man, it used to be the other way around. Remember, Trent used to miss, you know, I think three to four games a year. But, dude, he's just been awesome. And so just be thankful you're getting some of these guys. Yeah, Kibra, if you saw the John Lynch was doing an interview and said, you know, Kittle came by was like, hey, man, what if we get Khalil Mack? I think there are certain players that George Kittle looked up to, like Mike Evans, like Trent Williams, like Khalil Mack. And he just wants to play like he's just a fan. You know what I mean? And I mean that in the best possible way. He wants to play with these guys he's looked up to and guys he's played against. And what an incredible endorsement to have George Kittle asking if you could trade for him. I would love it. And I think the three kind of biggest, how do I say this? Trade worthy players for the 49ers right now are all on the chargers. Khalil Mack, Tyair Tartt, the defensive tackle, and Dalvin Tomlinson. Like those three guys fit what the niner need help with. EdgeRusher and defensive tackle kind of depth upside. Those three guys, like those are the three that I'm just like, dude, right here, go get those guys. Zack Attack with the Super Chat. What's up, brother? Niners are 5 and 0. Since my twins were born September 7th, let's freaking go. Love what you do, John. Dude, Zack, doing the good work out there, buddy. Bringing some more Niners into the fold. The Faithful continues to grow. Congratulations to you and your Zack. And congratulations to all Niner fans being 5 and 0. Let's go. Let's go. It's Friday. We're talking Niners football and we're undefeated. Dude, how great was that hate watch last night? Seeing Seattle lose. Oh my goodness. Man, that offense looks rough. Drake Greenlaw broke that team, man. They ain't going to be the same. It's going to be before and after. We saw the same thing. Three years ago with the Eagles, same thing. Same thing. Eagles knock us out of the playoffs. Talk trash nonstop. The Eagles won the Super Bowl. Seattle Seahawks won the Super Bowl. Next year, what happened? Next year, what happened? Drake Greenlaw gets ejected against the Eagles, completely dominate the rest of the game. Eagles were done. What happened to the Seahawks? Drake Greenlaw gets ejected, completely dominate the game afterwards, maybe not dominate as much as that Eagles fashion. They fall apart afterwards. The Drake Greenlaw effect is real, ladies and gentlemen. The Drake Greenlaw effect is real, ladies and gentlemen. I love it. Rams and Seahawks with three losses each. We're not even that far into the season. It could get worse. And wait, there's more. You got Seattle fans which are new to the sport, talking about, let's bring Drew Lockett, all that stuff. They're going against Brian Flurry. They're offensive corner. I think that's really the main issue, if I would say. Darnold has not looked good, but man, I love it, dude. Right here, Niner Zeno, he says, John, when will you get stribbling back week 12? Probably the earliest. If you can get them back week 12, 13, 14, let them get some reps, catch a strike before the playoffs. I love it. I would hate for stribbling to first come back for the playoffs. That is what I do not want. But stribbling coming back would be huge. He is the future. He is the present. He is that good. I want him out there. I want him out there. So as soon as he's ready, get him out there. Kimbrough, thanks for the super chat, my man. They thought Kirk was not ready. He went to them and said he was ready because they were down receivers, love hearing. Dude, I will go back to this. Christian Kirk and Mike Evans took less money to come here. They had other opportunities for more money. People want to be with the 49ers. Why? Kyle Shanahan won, especially on offense, to Brock Purdy. They want to be here. You want me on that wall. You need me on that wall. Deep down in places, you don't want to talk about. Kirk wants to be here. And I know it's frustrating because he hasn't practiced and got injured, got re-injured, whatever else happens. It's been forever. The longest calf injury. Maybe we can call this issue the Dustin Perry calf injury. Like it should have its own designation. The leader in soft tissue. That dude is a giant. I posted, there was like a post on Twitter that was like, name a bigger beef or what's the biggest beef you know about. I posted a picture of Dustin Perry and a picture of health being highlighted. Like that dude just, he gets everybody hurt. They can't mitigate anything for this team. I have no clue how he's still employed. I'm not one to want people to lose their jobs by any stretch, but it's like, what would you say you do here? Besides get guys with soft tissue injuries more injured. People are like, oh, the Eagles are the most injured team in the NFL. So I pull up their list of injuries. We have twice as many soft tissue injuries as they have. The most injured team in the NFL, the Eagles, supposedly, the 49ers have twice as many hamstring and calf issues as they do. Twice. Bananas, man. But yeah, Kirk being back, that's a good sign. Anybody being back is a good sign. Look at the difference McHale Williams made in 23 snaps. Oh, there we go, Sid. Yeah, well, I did not recognize the Dre Greenlaw effect. It's a real thing, man. Ah, there we go, Joe. You can't handle the truth. I love it. I love it. Kirk Ed Evans took less money and more taxes. Dude, these guys, what are they going for? Like, what's your motivation? You get to stay in Florida. The Bucs want it. That's the thing that is so beautiful about this team, right? Like, these guys want to win. That is why they are here. And man, I saw a really cool stat. It was from Katz on social media. He was tracking DVOA, right? And right now, the 49ers are number one on offense. And so he went through and tracked just the best offenses, DVOA, in 49ers history. And to his kind of surprise, and myself as well, it wasn't like the Joe Montana years. It wasn't the Steve Young years. It wasn't any of those. The three highest offensive DVOA teams through five games in the season, so a small sample size, all are Kyle Shanahan years. This year, currently, the 49ers have a 52.2 DVOA. That is the highest ever in franchise 49ers history ever offensively. That's how good this offense is playing. Greatest 49ers offense ever from a DVOA scale. The second best was 2023. They had a 51 score. 2019 was third, 45.1. Then you got to go to the hardball years, 2012, 42.5. 1995, they had a 40 scale. 1984, the first Joe Montana year to show up, 39.1. That's a testament to the new evolution of offenses and just how efficient everything is now. And it's a testament to Kyle Shanahan. Like, the Shanahan haters, I have no clue how you still have a leg to stand on. Logically, you can't. Visually, you can't. Statistically, analytically, you can't. And if your only measurement is Super Bowl or you suck, why are you watching a breakdown on a Friday for week six? I'm very thankful, and I'm not trying to throw shade. I am trying to have a one-sided dialogue. Sorry, I can't hear you. But if you do want me to hear you, we do our Zoom hangout. That's going to be in two weeks on our bi-week. And I do get to hear from you. Go sign up for 49errush.com or Patreon. We'll be having a Zoom hangout in two weeks. That is my time to hear you or put it in the chat. I get that. But like, I think that that is a flawed construct. I really, really do. And I understand a lot of people don't like Shanann because he's smug or arrogant or he's a nepo baby. I get all that. One of the humans that I have looked up to, I don't want to say my entire life, but from like the earliest moment I could remember, like I've told a story waiting on Tuesdays for my Sports Illustrated for kids to show up at my house. It was what I asked for Christmas one year. And it was like my favorite thing ever. And I would read every single page. I'd finish it, then I'd flip it over and I'd start back over. I didn't care. It was that in the East Bay. You guys remember the East Bay magazine? Those are freaking fire, dude. But anyway, Peter King was Sports Illustrated back then. Sports Illustrated is just absolute horse manure now. I'm sure there's some really good people that work there, but mostly not. Majority of people that work there and have that SI now or whatever, not all of them, almost every single one of them is just like doesn't even know shit about football anymore. It's absolutely devastating. What they did to my boy. I abandoned my boy. I just hate it. Whatever I see ESPN and I see Sports Illustrated now, I just want to throw up. It's gross. I don't want to be associated in any way, shape, or form with those anymore. But Peter King, long story short, one of my heroes, one of the people I never had the vision or dream to want to be a sports writer, broadcaster, whatever the hell this is, never was even in the facet. I wanted to coach. I wanted to play and coach. That's what I wanted. Along the lines, for those of you that know the story, I won't dive into it here. I am here. I've been doing this 10 years. This is a show 1747, and I have another 1200 shows up on behind the paywall. 3,000 shows. It's a lot of shows, and I'm thankful. Peter King was the standard. Peter King's book's out. I can't wait to go get it. I gotta go get it. There's a Barnes & Noble on the street. I gotta go get it. He said this on 95.7. This is Peter King, okay? Understand, this carries weight, gravitas. Peter King said this on Kyle Shanahan. Quote, Kyle Shanahan, in my opinion, right now, is just on a heater. I think he's gotten to understand this about the NFL, that nobody cares about who played or who didn't play. Did you win the game or did you lose the game? End quote. Kyle Shanahan's on a heater. I think it started last year. I would argue last year was Kyle Shanahan's best year coaching. To get 12 wins with that roster, to go on the road and knock off the defending Super Bowl champs who were healthy, the Eagles then. Unbelievable. They ain't been the same since. And then to come back this year, still all the injuries. I mean, and just 5-0, just dominating teams that you weren't supposed to be and that you were underdogs against and on the road, neutral sides flying across countries, continents. Doesn't give a damn. Ah, man. I love it. I love it. I love it. I love it. I don't understand how people are upset. Kyle Shanahan. I really, really don't. Kimbrough, thank you, man. He said, Zoom hangouts are worth the small membership fee. It really is. Thank you, man. Really appreciate it. That's how I feed the family. the49ersrush.com and our Patreon. The game tape is up from the previous week. Our bets, man, we have made you money. We have covered all, if you bet with us, which we post our bets every week, up to this point, I don't know if it's going to continue that way, but man, we haven't had a negative week. We tripled our money that you bet last week. Those are going to be posted this week at our bets of the week. But man, if you want to learn, you want to support us, whatever, there's only one place to go. My opinion is I really see the tape. You gotta see the tape to really see what it looks like. But then I'll see you closer on film. The things that we saw on tape, the things that we require. I hope you look the same on tape. Get better from the tape before hoping to have some good film on those guys and we'll get to that as soon as we get on the plane. If the 49ers coaches and players have to watch the tape, what do you think you need to do? Well, guess what? We got the tape! the49ersrush.com and our Patreon channel, patreon.com/49ersrushpodcast. We have every offensive, defensive, special teams play outlined in all 22 and end zone coaches tape to go through and show you play by play what this guy did wrong, what this guy did right, who was wrong, who was right, all those things. It's way better than just grades or anything you got. Trust me, once you sign up, you get it all. Seven day free trial right now. Plus we have monthly Zoom hangouts. We place our monthly bets, weekly bets, season long bets, all on there. If you want to be a better fan, you want to understand football better, guess what? The 49ersrush.com is the place to go. Dude, look at this. Somebody tried to make my day out here. Monkey, you freaking stud. It says, John, just know a lot of us look forward to your shows to come on like you did back in the day for the SI to come out. Man, that means the world to me. And I know how badass you guys are. And I'm thankful I've had the opportunity to meet a handful of you. Guys like BID., look at this. He says, barely caught this. Off soon to watch my grandson's high school team destroy another opponent. Go get him, BID. That's what's up, man. Get him. Get him, young BID. I love it. But I'm just so grateful. I'm so grateful. The best thing about this job, the number one thing about this job is whenever I go to all these games and events and tailgates and I get to meet you, whoever you are, if you are watching this, if you are listening to this, y'all are the best this is. Like I am not an insider, beat reporter, whatever. I'm a fan trying to increase the fan experience for 49ers Faithful. That's it. That's it. It's simple. Jacob, thanks for the super chat, man. Only one word we have for all the purdy Niner haters across the sports media platforms who predicted a third place finish for this team. Wrong. Wrong. Can't wait for February 2027. Hashtag CC. Wrong. That is what they are. And like so much. So I was having a conversation. I think it was with Rick. You know, he helps with all the rush events. He's the president of the 49ers Rush crew. Everybody's president but me, by the way. I'm just I'm just the guy that shows up sometimes. I struggle, and I hope this doesn't come across as a slight to anybody here. I struggle listening to any football content whenever I know they don't watch tape, and I know that they don't understand anything with X's and O's. That's not a slight to anybody here. I'm saying whenever you watch all those acronym networks and channels now, it's like, do you even like know what a role cover three is? Or, you know, what split zone, pin pool? Like, how do you know who's good and bad, and who's doing well, and who's doing bad? If you don't even understand what the offense or defense is trying to do, there's nothing wrong with watching a football play and say that's a good player, a bad player, this guy played well, or that guy played bad. None of that. And even though I know and coach for over a decade and have been a head coach and have watched film and have whatever, I still get things wrong because I don't know the play calls, right? So there's different degrees to this, but there's certain people that I know, like we hate watch certain shows and podcasts, but it's just like, dude, like, and I'll go back to this, like, don't get mad at the clown for being a clown, get mad at yourself for going back to the circus and expected anything different. I know for a fact, because I know people that work on these shows, that their interns write these stances, and their interns submit stances that they went through AI on to try to piss the most people off. Why is it good to piss off the 49ers? Because they have the largest fan base. And if you piss them off, they'll retweet your clips, they'll retweet all that, that gets them clicks, that gets them more sponsors, that ups their algorithm. It's just like, I hate that it's become what it's become. I hate it. But yeah, man, like, I struggle listening to a lot of those takes, because I just know they don't care about any of it. Like, I don't know. It's what it is. I did enjoy, I hate watching the Seahawks last night, who have lost two games in a week. Now they have a long week, which they need, but man, those questions, I freaking love it, dude. I love it. Right here, la la. I know what covered two is. My man. Yeah, you do. Yes, you do. Okay, bro. I watch the tape on Patreon. There we go, man. Appreciate you guys. Cornblowers. I like that. It's all about the clicks. I'm just not that guy. I'm not going to be that guy. Not who I am. Not who I want to be. And so that's okay. That's okay. I want to talk about the practice report. You know, the 49ers just finished their presser. I was waiting on that to finish before I jumped live. And the 49ers, a lot of players are not practicing. This is a list of did not practice today. Nick Bosa, Romelo Hite, Mike Evans, Grayson Halton, Colton McKivitts, Romelo Hite. Romelo Hite's on there twice. That's how he pissed me off in the tape again last week. Fourth down, play on the line, and the dude just falls on his own, pass rushing off the edge. He gets too hyped. He's got to learn. He's getting better, but anyway. Now, players that practice off on the side field, Mike Evans, Grayson Halton, Colton McKivitts, Romelo Hite was out there for a little bit on the side. Now, Colton McKivitts and Romelo Hite are just sick. They think that he got the George Kittle virus, which George Kittle said he lost 10 pounds, threw up after warmups. It's no wonder he didn't have a Kittle-esque style game. Still contributed in a positive way. It had a crazy snap count. George Kittle is just a warrior. James Thompson Jr. limited in practice. I think that's huge. I really, really do. Now, I don't want to do this on the show because I'm about to sneeze. So, I want to get to the Commander's Practice Report right after this, but if you want to bet with us, there's only one place. NFL season is upon us, and mybookie.ag is the place where we place all of our bets. We have been betting with them for eight years. We show you how much we bet and where we bet. You look at just today, which finished just minutes ago, Jacori Kroski-Merritt, not practicing. Stefan Diggs, not practicing. Charles Ominhue, not practicing. And Dave Klug, who kind of covers national whatever, he put this out on social media. Kroski-Merritt hasn't practiced in back to back days. Austin Eckler and Rashid White, both in non-contact jerseys today. The one thing that that offense does well, the Commander's has run the football. They are top 10 and rushing. They have no running backs. And they drafted a rookie running back and they cut them. So like, you're dependent upon Eckler and Rashid White, who I don't have problems with those, but Eckler at this point, you signed him off the street. Kroski-Merritt's good, but you know, he's very low ceiling. They're struggling. And if this was a Commander's show, we wouldn't have this many people watching, but if this was a Commander's show, your key to victory is run the football, establish the run, commit to the run game. How do you do that with two running backs and non-contact jersey and your starter out? You don't have the depth. You just don't have. And so, man, not to mention like Stefan Diggs, who, you know, he's the second best wide receiver on the team. Scary Terry is amazing. Charles Ameniou is one of their best pass rusher. Like, this team is struggling mightily health-wise as well. They're bi-weeks next week. So for the Commanders, they're wrestling with this whole conversation and it's like, okay, do we pull back this player and try to make a drive after the bi-week when we know they'll be healthy in two weeks? This is not a division game. The NFC East is a joke of a division. You don't even have to have a winning record to win this, or our coaches and general manager are going to get fired this week if we lose in our 1-4-1 going into the bi-week. Like, there's a lot of turmoil with that team right now. And it's just kind of hard for them to, like, figure out. I don't know what their plan is. I know if I was their coach, you're playing like this is the damn Super Bowl, because it might get fired. Dan Quinn might be let go next week, if I'm being honest. They might be one of the first sell teams. It's hard to do that with Jaden Daniels as your quarterback, and it's like, dude, he's on a rookie contract. Gotta go for it now. I just don't know. They're not a good team. They are just not a good team. But their key to victory is running the football, and they have no running backs. They have none. I don't know, man. Yeah. Devster. What's up, Devster? John, you don't want to be an SI swimsuit model? I don't mind being an SI swimsuit model. Y'all don't want me to be an SI. Dude, I love my body. I look great. But probably not to your standards. So yeah, I'll do it. I'll grace the cover. Dude, let's go. I'm in. I am in. Sid, John, I honestly thought last year's coaching effort by Kyle deserved Coach of the Year. Coach of the Year is not Coach of the Year. They need to change the damn name. Coach of the Year Award should be fun, new coach that overachieved Award of the Year. Like it's not the best Coach of the Year. Kyle Shanahan has received votes four times. Geez, four times he's been in the draw to win Coach of the Year. And the fact that he didn't win it last year, just a joke. I mean, you got to get sports writers out. We're past that. Like the way that the... I do like that they're kind of refining the Hall of Fame process, but they're not removing... What did I say earlier? I struggle with the opinion of an analyst that don't watch coaches tape, that don't understand scheme. I struggle with that. Matt Maoko is amazing. He is great. What he has done for 49ers fans for so long, that's incredible. He's a beat reporter. He gives us an inside look. He's the 49ers mouthpiece. If they want something leaked, they go straight to him. Like, that is a service that is important. He probably should not be the person whose voice determines who gets into the Hall of Fame or not. He probably shouldn't be the voice who determines Coach of the Year or not or MVP or not. He's excellent and the best in his field. And he should have those interviews and access, and that is what he does. Not a football guy, right? Matt Barrow is a friend of the show. Incredible. Cracks me up. Might be my favorite beat reporter. Because his humor is my humor. We've had him on the show. He's awesome. Romelo, he was joking with Romelo today. And Romelo goes like, yeah, back when you and I played, and I was just like, dude, I don't think Matt Barrow has played football. Not a bad thing. And I'm not saying you can't play football and not understand that. But I'm not sure there are X's and O's schemes, guys. But you have all these beat reporters, which is not a bad thing. Report on the beat, right? Report on the team. Get access. That's your job. Understanding who's the best players and who's executing better. Not your job, not your qualification, not where you should be. We are way past the 1940s. Sports writers being the no wall, being at the game because everybody else was going off the radio. It's not that anymore. It's just not that. And so there needs to be a main overhaul. Like you need people making decisions that understand football. That's how the awards and Pro Bowls and all pros and all these things should be determined by people that actually understand what's going on and watch the game. So many of these guys just watch Red Zone, which I love Red Zone. It's a good time. But like my job is not to vote on these awards. You got to be watching tape every week. I don't know. I'm a curmudgeon. That's my get off my lawn. Soapbox speech, I guess. Anyway, I've got flaws. I've got flaws, major flaws. Yeah, right here, Law of All. It's the NFL. They've hated us forever, especially the heads who are in charge now. Yeah, we ain't helping that one. $140. That ain't helping. That ain't making nobody look good. Ben, John, I know how you feel about low IQ players. Thoughts on Jade and Daniels last week. Man, I've gone back and rewatched that. The only way I can understand it is he thought they had a timeout. He went full Chris Webber. Can't go full Chris Webber. Yeah, like 12 seconds left, you got to throw the ball. And he was looking to throw like an inside breaker. And so, like, you can't do that either. It's not college. My favorite post of the week was probably like, Jada Daniels thought they'd stop the clock at five, out of respect for him and his number. Yeah, just dumb. He took full responsibility, which I like. Man, that next flick series really made him look rough. That whole relationship with his mom agent, it was weird. But hey, that's okay. My family's weird. Weird as, if you've ever been to one of our road trips, let's get weird is an anthem. Let's have a good time. Yeah, but that was weird. It's weird. Seemed like cool people though. It's weird. That was dumb and funny at the same time. Like, because you have the giant celebrating a tie, which is weird and dumb. Jada Daniels has no clue what's going on. Thought he had a time out, maybe. Maybe just no clue what the clock was. Football IQ is disappearing. It really, really is, you know, in the off season, my favorite thing that I've ever done as a coach, like not in gameplay call or, you know, whatever else. My favorite thing was we instituted a football 101 and we have this up on our Patreon, too, that I thought would be cool. Like, let's put out stuff to help people learn what inside zone is, outside zone, what cover three is, what the run gap responsibilities are, all that kind of different stuff. And what we would do is in the off season, we would spend one afternoon and we would walk out on the football field and I'd have a script and we would go over what the rules are. And so like this is in the off season, right? So like, you know, spring ball, winter, whatever else, because you have athletic period in Texas with your football team all year. And we would have class on the field. It would be like, okay, if somebody blocks a field goal and the field goal goes past five yards, who should touch it? Who should it? This is the Leon let rule. For those of you that remember, you block the field goal, you pick it up and run with it. Not if it crosses the line of scrimmage, because then if you touch it and fumble it, that's a first down for the field goal team. Just going over all these scenarios and just helping people understand what it is. Now, kids don't even sit down and watch games anymore, unless you take them to the game physically and buy them a ticket. You guys with kids, how does watching the 49ers go? Your kids are scrolling on their phone. They're watching TikTok reels of football. They're not getting the context, the coaching points, the logic, what the rules are. It's going to keep getting worse. And so, like, you see this just void of intelligent football play, and it's just so just like, ah, it's burns the eyes. These goggles do nothing. Like, it's just terrible. But yeah, Jaded Tadiel is kind of, I mean, he's a freak. He's unbelievable. He's unbelievable. But yeah, I'm, ah. Man, and right here, Big Papa, thank you, man, says, you know, but John, from a guy who never played football, dude, how'd you, you're the biggest dude I know. Like, Papa's huge. There's a big guy. I've learned so much about the exercises. Thanks to you over the years. Man, thank you, buddy. I appreciate you so much. Your friendship's awesome. Sid, thank you. You are incredible. John, how in the heck did Washington beat Seattle last week? Dude, Marcus Mariota, he did this crap to us. Y'all remember that when he was with Atlanta? We did a rush road trip down there in 2022. I think it was today. My cousin sent me a picture of me, him, and his fiancee at the time. Now they're married. They got two kiddos. Back in 2022, we go down there. I think the 49ers were like 6-2 or 4-2 or something. They had a winning record. And Marcus Mariota diced the hell out of the 49ers. He didn't have an incomplete pass until the end of the fourth quarter. Like now, we had like 7 defensive starters out, but like, dude, we got lampooned by a bad Falcons team, and Marcus Mariota is the backup quarter. Like, Mariota just has one or two of these games a year. It's just what he does. Now, he's not practicing. He's injured right now. But yeah, like, the Seahawks' offense is bad, and the Commander's played up. Any given Sunday is a very real thing. And whenever you have a team that is defending Super Bowl champs, you get everybody's best. You get everybody's best. Whenever you hear all week, dude, Seahawks are gonna blow them out. Largest spread of the week. That affects people differently. That affects people differently. Now, could they do it again? That's a tough ask. But it is weird. The commanders have played six games. They've only won one, and it was against the Seahawks? That's something else, man. But yeah, you run the ball, and you stop the run, good things happen. That is how the commanders are built. That is how the commanders are built. I like this notorious. Weird is my middle name, dude. I might start stealing that. I love that. Yeah, and Scott, appreciate you, Scott. Seahawks fans crashing out all over the place. Oh, I love it. You know, when we were at the Seahawks game and we won, like we had a grandma walk up and flip us off and mother f us in front of our kids, like grandkids. I was just like, man, come on. Those are your kids. Your kids are seeing you do this. What are you doing? Anyway, I'm just glad they have passion. I like passionate fans and I don't mind being flipped off. It's my love language. I love it. John, can the 49ers make a big trade of two players? Yeah, it'd be one and one. They can, but that's a little more difficult with the contracts and everything. NFL's simple, man. There we go. Big Pop of private school didn't have it. My bad. My bad. Yeah, Johnny Dale's the best. I learned from Johnny Dale. That dude knows more football than I forgot. Wait, no, he's forgot more football than I know. See, look at that. I love it, man. Right here. Did you see Jack Jones on that punt return a few games ago? He almost caused a turn. See, that's the thing. So Jack Jones was smart. We go over this now. So here's what happens. Dude, a lot of people were really upset at Jack Jones. That was smart as hell. That was genius because what is a dead ball on a punt? The rules are different than a field goal. So if a punt happens, the ball bounced at like the one and the Seattle Seahawks player caught it in the end zone and threw it back out, right? As soon as the punt team touches the punt, past the line of scrimmage, that is now a dead ball. That was actually genius because if Jack Jones got it after the Seahawks player saved it out of the end zone, Jack Jones picks it up and runs for a touchdown. Great situation, whatever. Yards, great. But let's say Jack Jones picks up that ball after the Seahawks player saved it, fumbles it. Seattle recovers the fumble. Guess what? Seattle does not get that ball. As soon as a punt player from the punting team touches that ball past the line of scrimmage, it is a dead ball for the receiving team. Meaning at worst, they can go back to where that first Seattle player took it. So they have the choice then. So even if Jack Jones picked it up and fumbled, 49ers could say, nope, we're going to take it back where that Seattle player touched it first. That's a dead ball rule. Again, a lot of people don't know that. Same in high school, same in college. As soon as they touch a punt past the line of scrimmage, you didn't do everything, and they score a touchdown, you can say, nope, we're just going to take it back to where the very first punting player touched the ball past the line of scrimmage. I actually thought that was genius. I didn't like how close he was at the bounce though. Scream in afterwards. Right here, Depthstar 81 County, how many times John says weird? Not enough times. Not enough times. That's what it is. You guys are awesome. Papa, you're the man. Yeah. No, he was right. You are the man. Shifty right here. Yeah. Looking up at the rule book. That was the cool thing. I don't have it anymore. I used to have my Texas rule book, Texas high school football rule book, and I would get the new edition every year. And I would just go through a tab and mark and whatever else, and I'd bring it on the field with me. We were playing one game. I don't remember what team it was, but they quick punted, right? So they would get in there and act like they're going for it on fourth down, or if it was like third and 18, we had a good defense that year. And so the quarterback was also their punter. So the quarterback would step back a yard, filled it like a shotgun, and quick kick it. Well, in the state of Texas football, and the same in the NFL, to be identified as a punter, you have to be 7 1⁄2 yards behind the snap of the ball, okay? If you don't do that, you do not get punter protection. So they put that on tape. And I went to the officials before the game with my rule book highlighted in marked. And I said, hey, they do this all the time on tape. Here is the rule. You know, whenever you're shaking the hand, here's the rule. He is not protected unless he is 7 1⁄2 yards behind the line of scrimmage at the snap. Every time they put this on tape, he's at 6 yards. He is not a protected punter. We're blitzing. And the ref goes, I didn't even know that. The official said that. He's like, I didn't even know that. He was a good old boy. I know he was awesome. Reagan stud. Anyway, so they get in there. I call time out because I knew it was coming. We practiced it all week. And I said, you guys run straight through this dude's face. Like, don't hurt him. We're not trying to hurt anybody. But I'm telling you, if he steps back to kick, don't worry about roughing the punter. Don't do any of that stuff. You run straight through his ass, because he was the quarterback too. And so, sure enough, they did it. We didn't block the punt. We lit that dude up like a Christmas tree. Thankfully, to get hurt, you never want people to get hurt. We were trying to block the kick, but whatever. And so, their coaches are livid. Their fans are livid. They're booing, they're mother f-ing everything. And I'm just sitting there with a grin on my face like the Grinch. Because guess what? Not a penalty. You are not a protected kicker unless you're 7.5 yards declared behind the snap. So they thought that they had this extra thing. It's just the little things. You know what I mean? But man, we blew that dude up. They didn't do it again the rest of the game. They did not do it again. I don't know if they did it the rest of the season. But anyway, I'm a nerd. Y'all got me talking about football stories. What's up, Dr. Steve Bruhl? See you in Atlanta. What? Are you kidding me? That's what I'm talking about. Freaking stud. Speaking of, if you want to come out and party, man, we got a lot of parties left, and we're adding one. Yes, it is officially happening. We're going to be in Atlanta. We're going to be in Dallas. We're going to be in Mexico City, Los Angeles. And you heard it, folks. We're also going to be in Arizona. We're doing it. It's not on the flyer. It is not added to the site yet. Stay tuned for that. We will be adding this. If you want to join us, 49ersrushroadtrip.com. 49ersrushroadtrip.com. We have the day before party. We have the all-inclusive Premium Tailgate and walk to the stadium. That Atlanta Tailgate is selling like hotcakes. I'm so pumped about it. We're hiring more staff. Price is going up. I hate to say that. I have to to be solvent, which is usually our goal. 49ersrushroadtrip.com. That Atlanta Tailgate is gonna be fire. I cannot wait. Justin, thank you so much for the super chat. Thanks for that explanation. I love it. I love it. I love it. I love it. Um, Scott says, look up on YouTube players he is in. It's mostly preseason. Oh, you're talking about somebody else. My bad. I didn't mean to mess up with that. You're the freaking man. Right here, Justin, back at it. Thanks for the super chat. Coming to Cali for the game Monday. Can't wait. Dude, Monday Night Football, 5-0. The special season continues for the 49ers. The special season continues. It's been a long time, man. 2023 was special. 2019 was special. 2012 was special. Like, those are distinct. Remember where you were in those games and watching those players. 2026 may be more special than all. If you have the opportunity to get out, whether on the road or at home or whatever, try. You owe it to yourself as a fan. You're watching the show, you're a fan. You're the best fan there is. Find a way. Find a freaking way. This year matters. So do you. You guys are the best. Our week long bets on the 49ersrush.com and our Patreon channel. Come bet with us. We've done great. We're going to have a losing week at some point. But man, we're kind of like the Niners right now. We are just lighting it on fire. Hopefully that continues. Thank you guys. And until next time, stay strong, faithful.
